Your Black Friday Action Plan

Your Black Friday Action Plan

November 27, also known as Black Friday, is almost upon us. The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days in the run-up to Christmas. It's the day when most retailers start their holiday sales. If you're going to buy presents for all your nearest and dearest, this is the day to do it. By following this Black Friday action plan, you can maximize your Christmas present budget without losing your mind.

1. Get there early. Really early. Most retailers will have very limited quantities of the best bargain items. Many people camp out in front of the store from the night before. But before you grab your thermos and sleeping bag, as if it's worth it. What do you want to buy? If it's a big-ticket item, like a top-of-the-line computer or a plasma TV, the savings can be huge. For smaller items, you'll be better off waiting until later. It may cost you an extra buck or two, but at least you'll get some sleep.

2. Shop online. Many retailers will be offering fantastic deals online for a limited time. You can shop in the warmth and privacy of your home. Just don't forget about the shipping costs.

3. Check out www.bfads.net. It has updates about Black Friday 2009 deals from many different stores. Knowing what you want ahead of time will make the shopping process quicker and a lot less painful.

4. Make a list in advance of what you want to get each gift recipient. That way you won't end up with lots of random gifts that seemed like a bargain, but aren't for anyone in particular.

5. Don't fall for the up-sale. Some retailers will try to sell you a costly unnecessary warranty to go with your bargain TV. You don't need it.

6. Know the prices in advance. Some retailers are less-than-honest about the regular price of certain items. Don't assume that something is a great deal until you've shopped around and compared prices.
