Tips to save your home during the recession

During hard economic times like the ones we are going through now, many people have to face very difficult decisions. Many times, even for financially stable people, it is easy to get off the track and find yourself on a difficult situation. In the last year, the percentage of families that have lost their homes has increased dramatically, but there are some steps you can take to ensure this doesn’t happen to you.
The best way to keep your home is to establish priorities. After your health expenses, your home should be the first payment you make every month. Even if a family provider looses his/ her job you must be aware that immediate action must be taken. Even if you find yourself with a severance package in your hands don’t think your financial problems are suddenly solved. You must plan ahead.
Start with the easiest things, cut whatever is not necessary. If you have a membership to a health club where you never go, cancel it; cut off those extra expenses that add up, like memberships to online movie renting services, the ballet class your daughter does not like, the extra minutes on your cell phone line, and the premiere movie channel subscription provided by your cable or satellite company.
It is also easy to make small changes in your home and your way of living. Be aware of your power usage. Install a ceiling fan and save on energy costs. Wash your clothes in cold water, and take shorter showers. Eliminate extra services on your phone line.
Be aware that your way of living has a dramatic effect on your financial peace. It is much better to make small everyday changes than to face the discomfort of loosing your home.
